A chat message can easily get lost among dozens of others. A mention in a discussion will appear right in the task it relates to, and you’ll receive a notification about it both in the app and via email.

Need to know where the team is stuck without calling a meeting? The Discussion section shows you the latest comments under each task. Just check the Dashboard or your notifications to see what’s being discussed and what the status is.
When colleagues are working from different cities or time zones, a reply may not come right away. It will remain in the comment section below the task until they read it, and unlike in a chat, there’s no risk of them forgetting to come back to it.
An unclear assignment can bring work to a complete halt, just like missing materials from a colleague. Post your question directly in the task, and as soon as you get a response, pick up right where you left off. Others don’t have to figure out what was agreed upon.
Type @ and select the name of the colleague you want to notify about the comment. That person will receive a notification, even if they aren’t currently assigned to the task. Use @project to notify the entire project with a single mention. On higher-tier plans, you can also mention the entire team, such as @marketing. A mention is a one-time action: it doesn’t automatically add anyone as a follower; it simply sends a notification to the person the question actually concerns.

Email and chat are standalone tools with no connection to a specific task. A message gets lost among dozens of others, and you either have to keep the context in your head or search for it in your inbox. In contrast, a discussion on a task remains linked to the assignment it belongs to— the history doesn’t get lost, and even a new team member can find it, even a year later.
A discussion is a thread of comments associated with a specific task, subtask, or project note. It contains the task description, follow-up questions, and final decisions, all arranged in chronological order. Anyone with access to the task can view it.
Type @ and select a name from the list of users in the project. That person will receive a notification in the app and, depending on their settings, via email as well—even if they aren't assigned to the task. Use @project to mention the entire project with a single mention. See the help section on mentions for more information.
Use your mouse to highlight a specific section of text, and Freelo will display a "Reply" button.
